Title: Public Services Desk 2
Pay Rate: Intermediate
General Description:
Provides quality customer service to assist faculty and students in the university community with their library-related needs. The student in this position also completes tasks to maintain the daily operations of the circulation area, including having a strong understanding of policy and procedure of the library and all tasks related to the Tier 1 Public Services Desk 1.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Greet patrons who approach the desk
- Check in/out items for use by patrons
- Check-in and sort all items returned to the library
- Retrieve reserve materials upon demand
- Direct patrons to the appropriate area of the library
- Aiding disabled patrons using the library.
- Answer more complex phone calls
- Show proficiency in the Library of Congress classification system
- Assist staff in opening and closing the building
- Assist and supervise Tier 1 student workers
- Assist in explaining University Libraries and University policies
- Retain considerable knowledge from on-the-job experience
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
- Minimum one year experience in our Circulation department
- Strong knowledge of the Millennium and Web Catalog systems
- Pays close attention to detail
- Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently
- Conscientious about completing tasks
- Ability to work under multiple supervisors
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to triage order of assignments
- Ability to return to previous tasks after helping patrons
- Follows instructions and remembers complex procedures
- Computer literacy

Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to supervise others
