Reading Room Guidelines & Protocols
- All users and visitors must comply with the Acceptable Use Policy for the Main Library Building, Library Facilities, and Workstations.
- Film crews and media personnel must contact the Department in advance with requests for filming in the reading room. Such requests cannot be accommodated without at least 48 hours' advanced notice and approval. These requests are also subject to the University's policy about filming on university property.
- Users must register annually with the Department and provide a valid photo ID in order to use materials.
- Food, drink, and smoking are prohibited in the reading room.
- Coats, bags, and backpacks must be stored in a designated area in the reading room.
- Stacks are closed. Staff members will retrieve all materials requested.
- In order to protect rare and unique materials, the use of pens and markers is prohibited. Pencils and a pencil sharpener are available.
- Use of post-it notes to mark pages is prohibited. Paper slips are available for this purpose.
- Photocopies and scans are made by staff members only. Patrons will be invoiced via email or mail for any duplication fees.
- Making cell phone calls in the reading room is prohibited, so as to not disturb other researchers. Cell phone calls may be made in the hallway outside of the reading room area.
