Biography of Richard Paskert

Richard Paul Paskert (1921-1985) was involved with the Kent State University athletics program for over four decades, and his impact on the university and the community was extensive. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 25, 1921, Paskert showed an early adeptness in athletics as he went on to letter in track, basketball, and football at John Marshall High School. He entered Kent State University in 1946 as a student, after serving in the armed forces during World War II. During his time as a student, he played both basketball and football and earned the nickname "Moose" which would stay with him well beyond graduation.

Upon completing his degree in 1950, Paskert would stay at Kent State as an assistant baseball and football coach, kicking off a lifetime career in Kent State athletics. He coached until 1970, when he was named the director of the athletic ticket office and promotions. Paskert founded the KSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1979, and a year later was presented with the Kent Medal for Public Service from the Kent Area Chamber of Commerce due to his contributions to both the University and the Kent community. Paskert was considered the historian of KSU athletics for many years. Following his death in 1985, a photographic gallery of athletic teams, that can still be viewed throughout the MAC Center building, was created and dedicated to his memory.
