Biographical Note: Helen M. Friese was an Executive Secretary in the Honors College at Kent State University and was on campus during the Kent State shootings of May 4, 1970. John C. Friese was Director of Food Services at the University and was responsible for feeding the members of the Ohio National Guard, the state police, and students who remained on campus following the shootings. The Frieses had been Kent residents for 12 years prior to 1970 and moved out of the area in 1972.

Scope and Content: This collection includes correspondence, clippings, and subject files related to the Kent State shootings and their aftermath.

Acquisitions Information: These papers were donated to Special Collections and Archives on October 27, 1996.
