History of G. I. Stories of the Ground, Air and Service Forces Series
The booklet series was produced by the European Theater of Operations unit of the United States Army. Specifically, the series was issued by the Orientation Branch, Information and Education Division. Information was supplied by various Army generals, commanders, and their staffs. It appears that some of these booklets were given to newly-enlisted staff as there is a space for the enlistee to record his/her name, date of enlistment, date of arrival in the European Theater, and decorations earned. There is also a space at the back of many of these booklets in which to record the autographs of fellow service personnel.
Scope and Content
The collection contains 44 booklets produced by the United States Army, European Theater of Operations unit during the second World War. Each booklet, part of a series titled G. I. Stories of the Ground, Air and Service Forces, highlights the work and accomplishments of a distinct Army division, corp, regiment, etc. during the war, including the Transportation Corps, the Women's Army Corps, Military Police, 87th Infantry Division, among many others. The booklets generally run about 30 pages in length and feature many photographs, maps, and other illustrations. Each booklet's final page includes space for the inclusion of autographs. The booklets do not include a date of publication, but date from around 1941-1945.
Statement of Arrangement
