Historical Note: This organization, now known as the United Fund of the Portage Country, was variously known from 1921 through 1950 as the Kent Welfare Committee, Kent Welfare Association, and Kent Community Chest and Welfare Association. In addition, the Kent chapter of the American Red Cross was also affiliated with KCCWA.

Scope and Content: The bulk of these records cover the period 1942 through 1950, and consists of minutes and reports to the governing committee. Material from proceeding years is made up of correspondence relating to a bequest in the will of William S. Kent for a sum of money to be given to the Kent Red Cross for use in aiding the poor people of the community. The Welfare Association was given the responsibility of distributing this money to those in need. This material would be of value to those researching local history or that of the Welfare Association and its operations in Kent during the 1940’s.
