Biographical Note: Lysander Mix Cowles (1807-1857) was the son of Giles Hooker Cowles who settled in Austinburg, Ohio, in 1811. Lysander was a merchant and militia captain. He married Rachel Cowles in 1835. Lysander served as administrator of the estate of Theodore Henry Wadsworth.
Scope and Content: This collection includes many miscellaneous documents, including receipts, teaching certificates, and legal papers related to Lysander's public service (Austinburg Township Treasurer and Justice of the Peace). Oversized items include abolitionist newspapers and a deed.
