Historical Note / Scope and Content: Artimus (Art) Keiffer received his Bachelor of Science and his Master of Arts degrees from Ohio University in 1985 and 1987, respectively. He then moved to Kent State University to pursue his PhD in Geography. As a teaching fellow in Geography, he received the Outstanding Graduate Student Teaching Award from the Graduate Student Senate in 1990. On the twentieth anniversary of the Kent State shootings, a memorial service was held to commemorate the occasion. Keiffer offered extra credit to his students if they would attend the memorial service and write a brief report on their experience. Keiffer felt that "It is important to make students aware of their place in time and space" and so he encouraged his students to attend the ceremony and to give some thought about the experience and not just report on the events. This collection contains 87 responses from that class. The collection also contains a brief explanation of the assignment by Keiffer and a poem written by him at the memorial service.

Acquisition Information: Art Keiffer donated his materials to the Kent State University Archives on May 22, 1990.
