Abraham and Isaac
In Memory of May 4, 1970, Kent State University
George Segal, Sculptor
"I was amazed at how alive the issues still were at Kent State," [Segal] said. "That's the reason I determined to use this particular image, which refers to something different, to a moral code. The Abraham and Isaac theme expresses the moral underpinnings of everyone's beliefs--the Judaic and Christian traditions." (Newsweek, September 11, 1978, p. 99)
The plaster cast of this sculpture, which was originally commissioned by Cleveland's Mildred Andrews Foundation as a commemoration of the shootings. The finished bronze is now part of Princeton University's modern sculpture garden.
