Scope and Content
This collection of materials from the Amalgamated Association of Street, Electric Railway and Motor Coach Employees of America (AASERMCEA), Locals 52 and 285, arrived at the American History Research Center at Kent State University on January 6, 1976.These records concern a labor dispute between Locals 52 and 285 and the Valley Motor Transit Company of East Liverpool and Steubenville, Ohio. The disagreement led to a National Labor Relations Board sanctioned election on August 20, 1948, which resulted in AASERMCEA being recognized by the Transit Company as the bargaining agent for its bus drivers.
This collection consists of two folders of correspondence and one of
miscellaneous materials. It would be of value to researchers interested
in Locals 52 and 285, AASERMCEA, or labor affairs in the East Liverpool-Steubenville
