Abstract: The Evelyn E. Hunt papers contain materials relating to the friendship and working relationship of Evelyn Hunt and Dagmar Celeste, activist, feminist, and ex-wife of Ohio Governor Richard F. Celeste. The collection includes correspondence between Evelyn Hunt and Dagmar Celeste, as well as periodical clippings pertaining to Dagmar and Richard F. Celeste.

Biographical Note: With an educational background in education, history and religion, Cleveland native Evelyn Hunt, has worked in the fields of leadership and diversity training, as well as studying and preventing discrimination in the workplace. From 1972 until her retirement in 1997, Hunt worked for Cleveland State University in various positions within the university's diversity and Affirmative Action programs. Hunt has continued to remain active in a number of civic and religious organizations.

Extended Biography: Evelyn Hunt, a Cleveland native, received her Bachelor of Arts from Ursuline College in Secondary Education in 1962 and her Master of Arts from Wayne State University in 1975.  She then returned to Cleveland where she pursued her Master of Education at Cleveland State University, receiving her degree in Higher Education Administration and Counseling in 1978.  In 1989, after pursuing course work in Religious Studies and Pastoral Ministry at Boston College, Hunt was awarded a second Master of Arts degree.  Later, she returned to Cleveland and began taking course work towards a Ph.D. in history at Case Western Reserve University in 1996.

Hunt has achieved a wide range of professional training focusing on leadership, diversity, and discrimination in the workplace.  She has presented papers on diversity, women's issues, and affirmative action.  Her publications include topics such as  "Rosemary Radford Ruether" and "Georgia O'Keeffe," in Research Guide to American Historical Biography, and "Memory" in Women Psalms.  She also received several grants for Womanshare, WomenSpace, and Cleveland State University.

Hunt held a number of positions during her 25 years at Cleveland State University.  From 1972-1995, she lectured in undergraduate education courses and taught classes on diversity and prejudice reduction.  She served as Administrative Assistant in University Relations from 1978-1984; an Administrative Assistant in Affirmative Action from 1984-1988; and Assistant to the Director of Affirmative Action from 1989-1993.  Hunt also served as Compliance Specialist for Affirmative Action at CSU, developing, implementing, and monitoring departmental search, outreach, and hiring procedures, in addition to resolving discrimination complaints and conducting training, advocacy, and diversity programs from 1993 to 1997, when she retired.

Hunt has also served on many university and civic committees, and she continues to be active on in a number of civic and religious organizations. Her university committee work included the CSU College of Education Graduate Affairs Committee, the University Community Assistance Program Committee, the CSU Interracial Unity Team, the Steering Committee of Women's Issues Network, and the OFCCP and Payroll Personnel Project Teams.  She also served as convener of the St. Vincent Quadrangle Child Care Committee and as co-chair of the CSU Child Care Committee.  Her civic service has included membership in the WomanSpace roundtable, the Northeast Ohio Coordinating Committee, and the Executive Committee of WomanSpace Board of Directors and the Vocational Guidance Services Placement Advisory Council.  In 1984 she founded the non-profit community agency Womanshare, and served as its first president, co-president and as a long-time board member.  Hunt co-founded the National Catholic Ministries Alliance and became the Women's Ordination Conference representative. She was also appointed the Women's Ordination Conference delegate to the North Atlantic Federation for a Renewed Catholic Priesthood. She was appointed the Women's Ordination Conference co-chair of the Roman Catholic Faith Community Council of the Federation of Christian Ministries.

Hunt also holds or has held membership in the American Association for Affirmative Action, Cleveland Employers Equal Opportunity Association, CORPUS (Core of Reserved Priests United for Service), Federation of Christian Ministries, Oral History Association, Organization of American Historians, Women Historians of Greater Cleveland, and Women's Ordination Conference.

Scope and Content: This collection consists primarily of material relating to Dagmar Celeste, active feminist and ex-wife of Ohio Governor Richard F. Celeste. Hunt is a friend of Dagmar Celeste and a member of her inner circle. The collection contains correspondence between Dagmar Celeste and Evelyn Hunt in addition to newspaper clippings pertaining to the former Ohio Governor and Ohio's former first lady.  Also included are invitations to Celeste sponsored events and literature on women's issues and women's studies. This collection dates from 1978 to 1997.
